Our purpose is to educate and empower children through chess-based programming that develops leadership skills, critical thinking, discipline, and ethical decision-making for academic and life success.

Play Chess Not Checkers Academy is dedicated to using chess to promote positive change in youth. We use chess as a structured educational tool to promote academic enrichment, social-emotional learning, and character development, particularly among underserved and underrepresented communities.
Through after-school programs, school partnerships, workshops, tournaments, and leadership training initiatives, the organization seeks to foster confidence, responsibility, and collaborative problem-solving skills that prepare young people for success in school, community life, and future leadership roles.
